Vincent had just the one start as a two year old (a winning one) and he progressed as a three year old to win 12 of his 15 starts including three Group 1 victories.
We are now seeing the early stages of that progression with his progeny.
On NZ Cup day, Sherlock all but won the Group 1 New Zealand Sires Stakes Final. He came home strongly to finish second by a neck to star stablemate Don’t Stop Dreaming.
If he gets out a touch earlier, then the race result might have been different.
After the race trainer Mark Purdon said that Sherlock was “certainly going to be a force to be reckoned with in the big races coming up.”
Last night Our Vinnie took out the Group Three Breeders Crown Silver Pace in fine fashion. He showed good gate speed to lead and then sprinted home in 56.3 to win by over two lengths.
On Sunday night Gypsy Amour finished third in the Group Two Evicus Final.
All told Vincent now has eight stakes horses from his debut crop.
They are led by the Group 2 winning Vinke B, who also went close to winning on NZ Cup day. He got into a tricky position from his second row draw, but flew home to finish second by a half head.
Interestingly of those eight stakes horses to date, three are out of Cam Fella line mares (Bettor’s Delight and Roll With Joe), three are out of Western Hanover line mares (American Ideal, Red River Hanover and Rocknroll Hanover), one is out of a Direct Scooter line mare (Christian Cullen) and one is out of a Most Happy Fella mare (Tibet).
These types of bloodlines working with Vincent is hardly a surprise given how well his illustrious father Art Major has crossed with similar lines.
In New Zealand Vincent is currently a clear leader amongst first crop sires and ranks fifth on the Overall Two Year Old Sires Premiership behind only Bettor’s Delight, Art Major, Captaintreacherous and Sweet Lou.
Our Vinnie becomes the latest stakes winner from Vincent’s debut crop!
