Pebble Beach is the reigning US Three Year Old Pacing Colt of the Year and he is shuttling to Australia.

The best son of the burgeoning young sire Downbytheseaside, Pebble Beach is not only a grandson of the great Somebeachsomewhere – he’s his richest grandson.

With a remarkable record of 17 wins, 8 seconds and 3 thirds from 29 starts – Pebble Beach was only ever out of the first three once in his career.

A precocious two-year-old, his freshman highlights were victories in an elimination of the Breeders Crown (third in the Final) and in the $250,000 Kentucky Championship Series Final (in a season’s best 1:48.4).

As a three-year-old he won the $1 million North America Cup by two lengths and the $911,000 Breeders Crown Final by three lengths in 1:48.2.

His trainer Noel Daley was effusive in his praise for Pebble Beach

“He’s the most correct yearling I’ve ever bought. He’s not a big horse, 15.2’ but he’s just spot on as a type. A great looking horse. ”

“He was great gaited, didn’t wear a boot and just had a wicked turn of speed with several 25 and change quarters on his record.”

While his drive Todd McCarthy said

“The Breeders Crown win as a three-year-old was one of his most impressive wins. He cut the mile and just shot away.

“His speed and versatility is what made him so special.

“He had that fast twitch muscle. When you asked him to turn on the speed there was no lag.”

The best son of the burgeoning young sire Downbytheseaside, Pebble Beach is not only a grandson of the great Somebeachsomewhere – he’s his richest grandson.

So when looking at what mares might suit Pebble Beach we should start with what has worked with other members of this incredible sireline.

In the Northern Hemisphere the Somebeachsomewhere sireline has been incredibly potent and produced superior performers when crossed with Western Hanover, Cam Fella and Artsplace line mares.

While in the Southern Hemisphere we have seen the same pattern, with the addition of Direct Scooter line mares.

Horses like Catch A Wave and Its All About Faith are both by Captaintreacherous out of Christian Cullen mares, while Downbytheseaside’s top two performers in New Zealand are also out of Christian Cullen mares.

Another aspect in a mare’s pedigree we would ideally look for is multiple strains of Meadow Skipper.

Western Hanover line stallions include American Ideal, Rock N Roll Heaven, Rocknroll Hanover, Western Terror, Western Ideal, Jeremes Jet, Badlands Hanover, etc.

Cam Fella line stallions include Bettors Delight, Roll With Joe, Fake Left, Armbro Operative, Four Starzzz Shark, Blissfull Hall, Betterthancheddar, etc.

Artsplace line stallions include Art Major, Sportswriter, Grinfromeartoear, Major In Art, etc.
