We’ve spent over sixty years creating a reputable name for ourselves, and we’re dedicated to upholding it for generations to come.
Not only do we breed horses, we race them too, so we understand the level of expertise, care and dedication that is required to create a winner. We are there to support you throughout every stage of the process, and pride ourselves on being at the forefront of communications. If you have questions or concerns, we’re always just a phone call away. There’s no greater reward than seeing the foals of Alabar grow up to be happy and healthy champions on the track.
What began as a stud farm in the Adelaide foothills in the 1950s is now a world leader in the Standardbred Breeding Industry. The name Alabar derives from the letters of the founders first names – Alan Galloway Snr and his wife Barbara. The apple didn’t fall far from the tree with Alan Galloway Jnr inheriting his father’s love of horses and readily helping care for the farm at a young age.
It was that same passion for horses that lead an 18-year-old Galloway Jnr to many famous horse studs across the world, including Blue Chip Farms and Armstrong Bros. He garnered much knowledge about how these leaders were operating and upon his return to Australia in 1979, he purchased Alabar Farm’s second location in Echuca, Victoria, to put his newfound knowledge to practice.
With Galloway Jnr’s expansive equine knowledge, business nous, and marketing flair, he took Alabar Farm to a whole new level and raised the standard for studs to follow.
In the early 2000’s, Galloway Jnr recognised the growing New Zealand market and expanded Alabar Farm across the Tasman, acquiring a picturesque property in the North Island overlooking the Manakau Harbour.
Some of Australia’s finest stallions have come from Alabar Farm, including Kentucky, Windshield Wiper, What’s Next, Golden Green, Fake Left, Safely Kept, Armbro Operative, Presidential Ball and Village Jasper. In more recent years, we have added champion sire Art Major to our portfolio too.
2011 saw the proud merger of Stallion Station and Alabar Farm, bringing with it many champion stallions including Mach Three and Courage Under Fire.
Nevele R Stud and Alabar joined forces in 2014 to bring A Rocknroll Dance down under to Southern Hemisphere breeders. In 2015, He’s Watching, the equal fastest horse in the world at the time, joined our roster, along with a second trotter in Peak. Rock N Roll Heaven, Roll With Joe and Sportswriter moved to Alabar in 2016 following a deal with Pepper Tree Farm. Then, in 2017, the fastest ever standardbred joined the roster in conjunction with Nevele R Stud – the incomparable Always B Miki.
Alabar continues to source the best stallions available whether they come from the Northern Hemisphere or closer to home.
Our aim is always to provide you with the best stallions and also great customer service.
Our stallions continue to be amongst the very best available. This is borne out in the achievements of their progeny:
