Mister Smartee leads Weekend Winners

The Alabar stallions Always B Miki, Rock N Roll Heaven and Ultimate Machete enjoyed a successful night at Gloucester Park on Friday 3rd May.

The four year old gelding Mister Smartee reinforced his reputation as a brand new star in the West. The son of Always B Miki won his fourth race in succession this season and improved his career resume to 11 starts – 9 wins and $138,380 when a decisive winner of the Group 3 Four and Five Year Old Championship.

After racing three wide early, Mister Smartee then found the breeze position for the last mile before surging to the front in the home straight.

He was bred in NZ by Dancingonmoonlight Farm in the South Island and is the second foal from the unraced mare Luna Danza.  She is by the son of Artsplace in Stonebridge Regal from the former champion mare of the 1990’s in Lento 1.56.4 $272,110.

Mister Smartee then has a 3 X 3 cross to Artsplace, similar to 5 of the top 7 Australian bred progeny of Always B Miki .

The ever reliable Rock N Roll Heaven chimed in with his winner at Gloucester Park  –  the five year old gelding Rockandrollartist. He brought up his tenth lifetime win, this one being the fourth in succession after leading all the way from gate five.

Rocknrollartist is the tenth foal and eighth winner from the Perfect Art mare Artists Impression.

Rock N Roll Heaven over mares by the brothers Perfect Art and Art Major has been a most successful cross headed by the near millionaire  Expensive Ego 1.48.6.

Ultimate Machete, the big strong son of Bettors Delight sired 41 foals in his first crop, which are current three year olds. Of the 39 who are still alive, 22 have raced and 13 of those have won $426,000 between them – quite impressive statistics for a sire in the early stages of his siring career.

Miss Hepburn, a filly from the Grinfromeartoear mare Montanas Smile, scored her second career win last Friday night and took her earnings to $79,512.

She was placed in both the Westbred Classic and The Diamond Classic last season and is sure to go over the $100,000 plateau in the near future.

Not to be outdone by a filly on the West Coast, Ultimaction, a filly from the Albert Albert mare Powerful Princess was a decisive winner in a $14,000 race at Launceston on Friday night.

A career record to date of 4 starts for 2 wins suggests an enjoyable ride for the owners of this Ultimate Machete filly  – Geoff Dodd, Mark Panton and M Sinclair.
