The Alabar stallions Art Major, Rock N Roll Heaven, Always B Miki and Ultimate Machete have had a busy weekend siring winners at Metropolitan tracks across four States.
Two of those winners, Miss Disturbia (Art Major) and Rakero Rebel (Rock N Roll Heaven) were in feature races at Globe Derby Park and Menangle respectively.
Miss Disturbia, a two year old filly having her second start, raced in the breeze for driver Samantha Pascoe and drew away up the Globe Derby home straight for a 6 metre win in the SA BOTRA Kindergarten Series Final.
The neat and pretty filly, the first foal of the American Ideal mare Riri Rihanna, was bred by Gary and Louise Toulmin at their Clarendon, Victoria property. She was offered at the 2023 Nutrien Melbourne Sale but passed in after failing to meet her reserve.
Then along came the Bain and Summit Bloodstock racing team who took the filly on a deal which down the track resulted in a sale to that partnership.
Riri Rihanna, a petite mare herself, won 4 races on outer WA Tracks after being bred in New Zealand by Suzanne Herlihy.
She is a grand daughter of the 2002 NZ Broodmare of the Year Bee Gees Dream and is from the family of some outstanding fillies such as Party Party 1.53.2, Democrat Party 1.54.9, Cowgirls N Indians 1.56 and Champagne Party 1.56.3.
Rakero Rebel, a five year old mare by Rock N Roll Heaven, took advantage of a smart Greg Sugars drive to give herself an invitation to the Group One Queen Elizabeth Mile this Saturday night, when winning the Group 3 Robin Dundee Stakes at Menangle.
The final half was run in 53.7 seconds, with Rakero Rebel running her own last half in 53.1 seconds.
That victory, her tenth, took her earnings over the $200,000 plateau. Rakero Rebel has been a model of consistency for Jess Tubbs and Greg Sugars since arriving from New Zealand in December 2022. She has only finished further back than fourth on two occasions in her 22 starts in Australia.
Rakero Rebel was bred in NZ by Robert Famularo’s Dancingonmoonlight Lodge.
She is the sixth foal of a seven time winning Christian Cullen mare Timeless Perfection 1.56.9, she a half sister to 4 winners including Malak Uswaad 1.49.4 $566,058.
Timeless Perfection is a grand daughter of the wonderful mare Pacific Flight 1.51.2 $562,345 who raced with distinction on both NZ and USA tracks.
Art Major also sired winners at Melton on Saturday night and Launceston on Sunday night. Le Belle Bijoux, from the outstanding Bettors Delight mare Bellas Delight 1.54.3 $442,523, saluted for the ninth time in the mares race at Melton. She also took a new lifetime mark of 1.53.9 when driven to victory by Ewa Justice.
Hazewillrev, a $45,000 purchase from the 2022 APG Melbourne sale, has now returned his purchase price when winning his fifth of six career starts to date at Launceston. He was a commanding winner for trainer Craig Hayes and reinsman Gareth Rattray.
Hazewillrev is the second foal of the Rocknroll Hanover mare Rockaround Sue 1.51.
Rock N Roll Heaven sired his second weekend winner when the six year old gelding Whata Optimist took out the second race at Globe Derby Park on Saturday night. This was the geldings fifteenth career victory. He is the first foal of the Bettors Delight mare Needa Margarita.
Always B Miki joined in the weekend party of winners when his three year old colt Kingman collected the prize in the three year old race at Menangle. This was his fifth win in just 10 career starts for his owner and breeder Mick Harvey.
The dam of this colt, Gotta Go Dali Queen, won 8 races and $86,691.
Kingman is another example of an Always B Miki winner from an Artsplace line mare.
Ultimate Machete, who commenced his stallion career with a flourish of winners in his first crop last season, continued on the winning vein when his three year old gelding Cuzzy Bro was a comfortable winner at Hobart on Friday night.
Cuzzy Bro, a two year old winner last season, has returned to the track a year older and winning both his starts this season. He now has earnings of $30,805 for trainer Kristy Butler.
