A royal week of winners

The first weekend of July this year can only be described as Majestic.

Majestic Son, who has been such an asset to the Trotting breed in the Southern Hemisphere, seemingly has nothing left to prove. However, he added to his impressive cabinet chest of Trophies this past weekend with some seven individual winners on both sides of the Tasman including Group Two winners at Albion Park and Menangle.

The five year old gelding Gus might have a short name but he is big on ability and it was there for all to see at Albion Park on Saturday night.

His win in the $54,000 Darrell Alexander Trotting Championship had a touch of arrogance about it. The 20 metre handicap was of no consequence to the Turpin / McMullen trained and driven Gus as he steamed to a sweet and decisive victory.

This win was his twelfth in just 28 starts for his enthusiastic owner Ross Patrick and took his earnings to $112,730. Gus was bred in NZ and is a son of the Monarchy mare Kylie Bee, she herself winning $112,730 in just eleven starts.

Rainbow Jester was the second of Majestic Son’s Group Two winners when he was the easiest of winners in the $50,000 NSW Two Year Old Trotters Final.

This colt who is trained by Dennis Day and owned by his son Aaron and nephew Mark looks to have the world at his feet, such is his extraordinary ability and manners.

He was purchased on a whim at the 2023 Sydney Yearling Sales when Aaron and Mark who were just enjoying a beer noticed him walking around the outside parade ring. The $7,000 they outlaid to purchase the impressive colt will provide them with the bargain of the 2023 Sales as Rainbow Jester has already banked $93,000.

Rainbow Jester was bred by longtime Alabar clients John and Sue Markham at their Rainbow Farms base in Muswellbrook, NSW.  He is the eighth foal of a Sundon mare, who’s previous seven foals have amazingly only won $12,400 between them. However the colt is from the famous “Maori” family so Rainbow Jester will be another standout addition to this remarkable family of trotters.

Majestic Son is also responsible for a very talented Trotter in the West – in the form of the five year old gelding Our Maestoso.

He was bred by Alabar NZ but has done all his racing in WA. His win at Gloucester Park on Friday night was his fourteenth in just eighteen starts and advanced his earnings to over $125,000.

The other Majestic Son winners were:

  1. Majestic Bundy – a four year old mare from a Sundon mare. Recorded her second career win in 18 starts when saluting at Cambridge on Thursday night.
  2. Pyramid Rose – a three year old filly from a Monarchy mare. Brought up her maiden win at Addington on Friday night.
  3. Mavis Jones – a four year old mare from a Dream Vacation mare. She looks to be going places when winning for a third time in just 11 starts at Addington.
  4. Sunny Gee – the seven year old gelding from a Sundon mare has been a holiday ticket for his connections. The win at Menangle on Saturday night was his seventeenth and advanced his earnings past $273,000.

Always B Miki continues his climb up the Siring Premiership lists with more weekend winners.

The three year old NZ bred gelding Justcallmemiki is creating an impression in his homeland despite the fact he is owned by WA trainer Greg Bond.  He is the fifth foal of the $351,000 winning Mach Three mare Alchemist.

In winning impressively at Addington he recorded his third win in just six starts.

Always B Miki also sired these weekend winners:

  1. The Miki Taker – five year old gelding from an Art Major mare. He won the FFA event at Gloucester Park on Friday night – now 15 wins and prizemoney exceeding $270,000.
  2. My Moonlite Dream – a five year old mare from a Christian Cullen mare. She was a nice winner at Albion Park on Saturday night. This was her sixth win and now has earnings around $70,000.

Art Major is just a remarkable stallion who continues to keep his name in the spotlight

He sired another five winners on the weekend with the Kiwi bred Aroda 1.51.8 heading the list of winners after another impressive performance at Albion Park, winning the $53,000 The Queensland Sun.

The previous week Aroda had won the Redcliffe Gold Cup and he now has earnings of $185,485 from his eleven victories.

The other Art Major weekend winners were:

  1. Major Davvin – an eight year old gelding from a Western Hanover mare recorded his seventeenth career victory when winning at Launceston on Sunday night.
  2. Le Belle Bijoux – a six year old mare from a talented Bettors Delight mare. After breezing she recorded win number ten and took her earnings to $99,020.
  3. Ooga Chaka – a five year old gelding from a Mach Three mare. Having his first start at Menangle he bought up career win number nine.  One of four winners for talented young reinsman Will Rixon.
  4. Shezamajorstar – a nice three year old filly bred by Alabar from a Rock N Roll Heaven mare. She won her second race from five starts with a victory at Port Pirie on Saturday night.

Rock N Roll Heaven keeps on producing winners every day of the week and he sired a nice winner at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

Rock Me Over, a nine year old gelding from a Perfect Art mare has raced with consistency for seven years now.  His win on Friday night was his twenty sixth along with sixty five placings and earnings of $412,070.
