TATIJANA AND MIKI – A RECIPE FOR GLORY

Always B Miki will long be remembered for an amazing performance in the 2014 Meadowlands Pace.

So, it is fitting that on the weekend of the 2024 edition of the Meadowlands Pace, Always B Miki had a celebration of his own by siring six winners on metropolitan tracks in the Southern Hemisphere.

Without a doubt his two feature winners were the sisters Aardie B Miki and Aardies Express, the fifth and seventh foals from the Rocknroll Hanover mare Tatijana Bromac.

Aardie B Miki led most of the way in the Burwood Stud sponsored South East Oaks at Albion Park to record her third win in 13 starts and take her earnings to almost $70,000.

Then three races later the older sister Aardies Express enhanced her reputation as one of the very best mares currently racing in the Southern Hemisphere with an all the way win in the $52,000 Ladyship Stakes.

Seventeen wins from 24 starts and earnings of $377,984 are delighting her Ontario, Canada based owner Mike Tanev.

There is a connection back to Alabar’s Echuca property with the two sisters. Always B Miki of course has his home base at Alabar when visiting the Southern Hemisphere.

The granddam of the two sisters Tandias Courage was also bred and raised at Alabar before being sold as a yearling and then being sold to USA to continue a racing career.  She was then bought back to NZ by the Late Bob McArdle and from her Tatijana Bromac was born in 2007.

The other Always B Miki weekend winners were:

  1. Always A Porsche – a three year old gelding was an easy winner at Alexander Park on Friday night . His second win in 6 starts.
  2. Always B Misty – A two year old filly from the Mach Three mare Alchemist. Won on debut at Alexander Park defeating five colts, last quarter in 27.4.
  3. Miki To Success – a three year old gelding from an Elsu mare. Recorded his fourth win for the season when winning at Melton on Saturday night – earnings now $51,300.
  4. Alwaysbealady – a five year old mare who won at Hobart on Sunday night. She was bred by Alabar from the Art Major mare Digital Art and this was her fifth victory in just 23 starts.

Captain Crunch, the richest entire son of Captaintreacherous, sired the quinella in the two year old race at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

Sebastian James, having just his second career start, had a head to spare over another Captain Crunch colt in Captain Stirling.

Sebastian James is the first foal of the unraced Artesian mare Nina Sue, she being a full sister to the millionaire pacer David Hercules 1.52.7.  He was bred by loyal Alabar client Steve Johnson and the colt has a 3 X 3 cross to Artiscape and five doses of Abercrombie blood in his pedigree.

Art Major is a marvel – now 25 years old and still siring those weekend winners.

Sahara Tiger, from a Village Jasper mare, took a new lifetime mark when winning at Melton on Saturday night in 1.51 and advanced his earnings to $267,489. This eight year old has now won 30 races including 7 this season.

The other Art Major sired winners for the weekend were:

  1. Artisan – a five year old mare from an unraced Bettors Delight mare recorded her eighth lifetime win at Alexander Park on Friday night.
  2. Commander Ben – a four year old gelding from a McArdle mare recorded his seventh career win with victory at Addington on Friday night.
  3. Craftmans Charlie – a four year old horse from a Christian Cullen mare was an all the way winner at Menangle. This was his ninth win and is now closing in on $100,000 in earnings.

Rock N Roll Heaven chimed in with his usual winners.  This weekend they were both across the Tasman – one at Alexandra Park and one at Addington.

  1. Highview Rockn Roll – a nine year old mare from a Red River Hanover mare collected her eighth win as a trotter and took her earnings to $90,884.
  2. Trump Card – a three year old gelding from an unraced Bettors Delight mare won handsomely at Addington by 5 lengths. This was his second win in 4 starts.
