Lot 438 Ultimate Sniper – Elite Angel Filly
The 2024 Perth APG Yearling Sale will be held this Sunday at the Magic Millions complex in Middle Swan and it will see the progeny of Bettor’s Wish and Ultimate Sniper go under the hammer.
The progeny of Bettors Wish continue to sell well with a colt in New Zealand selling for $100,000.
While the only yearling by Ultimate Sniper, a colt, to be offered for sale in New Zealand sold for $45,000.
BETTOR’S WISH
Trevor and Colleen Lindsay, who trade under the moniker of Karnup Racing were regular visitors to the NZ Yearling Sales some 10 to 15 years ago. Trevor concentrated on purchasing well bred fillies and hit the jackpot almost immediately when he purchased Bettor Cover Lover, who then won over $1 million for Trevor and Colleen.
Another filly he purchased in 2009 was the Christian Cullen filly Jacinta Jones and although she was unraced, is now a nice producer for Karnup Racing. Her fifth foal to make it to the racetrack Jaxs Ideal (two year old filly) has made her way into the $125,000 APG Sales Classic Final at Gloucester Park on 1st March.
Bettor’s Wish is arguably the best performed son of Bettors Delight to make it to the Siring ranks.
He was both the three year old Pacing Colt of the Year in the USA and the Aged Pacing Male of the Year (as a 4 year old) – a feat not achieved since Art Major in 2003.
It was a no brainer to breed a Christian Cullen mare to a son of Bettors Delight, considering the amazing strike rate of this cross of bloodlines.
So, this colt whose Granddam is a half sister to the mighty Changeover $2.42 million should be a busy lad on Sales Day.
If she inherits even a drop of her Mum and Dad’s athletic ability then she is going to give her new owners plenty of fun.
Her sire Bettor’s Wish won $2.6 million in a 3 season career whilst her dam, the Christian Cullen mare Libertybelle Midfrew won $640,490 – predominantly at Gloucester Park.
Christian Cullen mares have an amazing record when bred to Bettors Delight – 18 of the top 20 performers from Cullen mares to race in Australia are sired by Bettors Delight.
Liberybelle Midfew was both tough and fast and she took on the boys and beat them on numerous occasions in her 51 start career.
Serpentine based breeder Mike Howie has been breeding Standardbreds for the past 35 years and in recent times has become one of the “Red Hot” breeders in the West.
On 3rd March he will offer two impressive yearlings by the heir apparent to Bettors Delight in his son Bettors Wish.
Both are from his Copper Lodge bred mares – a colt (Lot 510) from the Art Major mare Our Copper Art and a Filly (Lot 533) from
the Somebeachsomewhere mare Some Copper Beach.
“I’m absolutely rapt in the two individuals that I’ve bred. They are neat, compact and very correct types. They look ready made two
year old types. I love them more each day I work with them,” said Mike last week.
Our Copper Art has a perfect produce record to date – 4 foals for 4 winners including the near quarter million dollar winner Caveman
1.50.8 $234,000. Her fifth foal, the current two year old called Captain Cooper has qualified, so he too will be making a racetrack debut in the near future.
The remainder of the pedigree page is littered with Group winning or Group placed horses so lot 510 is a must to be on your shopping list.
You must be impressed when you look at the pedigree page of a filly and see so many outstanding females peppered through the page. In this case Some Copper Beach, Artistic Copper, Fellatina and Dame Rainbows are shining lights.
Just for good measure this lot 533 has a double cross of the great Cam Fella – 4 X 4.
ULTIMATE SNIPER
Elite Angel was a talented performer on the racetrack taking a mark of 1:56.7 and winning $128,702. At stud she has continued to reward her owners producing 4 winners including the Group 1 placed Robbie Rocket $142,425.
The pedigree page of this filly is littered with many juvenile stars including his dam’s half brother Son Of Fergie $323,605, who was Group 1 placed in the McInerney Ford Classic.
This is just Heavens Open’s second foal and her first has already qualified.
This a family well know to KTC Bloodstock as Heavens Open is out of Pleasing Package $359,380 and thus a half sister to their stallion Foreclosure 1:48.8 – $807,746.
Not only was Foreclosure a good performer on the racetrack, he has developed into a good stallion as well.
In Australia Foreclosure has left 14 winners, from a small number of foals, including Cap In Hand $126,791.
Ultimate Sniper is one of Bettors Delight’s best sons being name NZ Horse Of The Year as a 4YO after clean sweeping the Inter Dominion.
Arconite has already produced five winners including Adda Spoilt Major $96,153 and the three time winning 2YO of last season Thenu Came Along.
This is a hugely successful New Zealand family (and one which has a lot of success in WA) that has produced the likes of Princess Tiffany $1,061,195, Rock Diamonds $757,364, Ohokas Bondy $388,148, Dancing Diamonds $343,276, etc.
