The Always B Miki gelding Cold Chisel proved too good for his rivals in the Group 2 Young Guns Cardigan Bay Stakes.
Trained by Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan, Cold Chisel was used off the gate and settled in behind the leader Yourdoinamazinsweety.
Then in the home straight he sprinted strongly to win and lead home an Alabar sired trifecta with Escape Artist (Art Major) in second and Always B Elite (Always B Miki) finishing third.
Cold Chisel has now three starts for two wins and earnings of $45,990.
Bred by Mark and Pauline O’Connor and Owen Shaw, Cold Chisel is out of the Presidential Ball mare Shezaball and was a $100,000 by Montana Park at the 2022 NZB Christchurch Yearling Sale.
It was a big weekend for Always B Miki as his progeny results also included:
- Diamonds Are Forever – 2nd in the Group 1 Northern Oaks
- Kiss – 2nd in the Group 2 Young Guns Delightful Lady Classic
- Maurlen Boy – 3rd in the Group 1 Bathurst Gold Crown
As of writing Always B Miki is the leading two year old sire in New Zealand.
