Soho Spectre captures NSW Derby

Soho Spectre became Art Major’s 73rd Group 1 winner on a big night for the legendary stallion.

Given a perfect drive by Rickie Alchin (also the trainer), Soho Spectre settled well on the pegs before letting down strongly to finish best and win over Bay Of Biscay by 1.1 metres.

The son of Art Major has now won 7 times from 13 starts and has earnings of $197,082.

The win was the first Derby win for owner Robert Watson, who also bred the colt.

Out of the Group 3 winning mare Delightful Jade, Soho Spectre is Art Major’s 73rd Group 1 winner and the 8th bred on the Art Major / Bettor’s Delight cross.

It proved to be a massive night for Art Major as he also sired the winners Its Merlin (Group 2 Light Horse FFA) and Don Hugo (1:49.6), as well as being the dam sire of the Miracle Mile winner Leap To Fame.
