“The Creek” was ablaze with feature races on Saturday night including 4 Group Ones, a Group Three and a Listed 2 Year Old Race with a $500,000 Stake.
The Alabar stallions had a big night out siring 4 winners of those 6 feature races and even had a dose in the success of the superstar of Southern Hemisphere racing Leap To Fame, with his dam being a daughter of the champion Sire Art Major.
Always B Miki has been building an impressive resume as a siring power in the past couple of months and he certainly added to it on Saturday night.
Aardie B Miki, the three year old full sister to Aardies Express 1.48.9, produced a withering burst of speed in the Albion Park home straight to win the Group One Queensland Oaks in a runaway fashion.
She has thrived in the Queensland sun since arriving from New Zealand some eight weeks ago and her win on Saturday night was career number four for this lightly raced and talented filly. Her current prizemoney of $152,881 will surely build under the direction of the Turpin / McMullen school of training.
The inaugural running of the $500,000 Protostar Slots race for two year olds brought together a sparkling field of talent.
At the finishing post it was the Always B Miki colt Fate Awaits who had his head in front in a track record time of 1.50.6.
Fate Awaits was a $24,000 purchase at the 2023 Sydney Nutrien Yearling Sale and he is already the bargain buy of the 2023 Sales with earnings now exceeding $300,000.
He was bred by NSW breeders Phil and Denise Thurston and is another Always B Miki progeny from an Artsplace line mare (by Art Major).
There is never a Night of Glory racing without Art Major being prominent.
His three year old Kiwi bred son Major Hot settled down to a stirring battle in the home straight with the Alabar bred Bay Of Biscay and courtesy of a clever drive from Adam Sanderson, Major Hot collected the Queensland Derby trophy.
He is the third foal from the Bettors Delight mare Hothooves (so a half brother to Hot And Treacherous) and was bred by longtime Alabar NZ client Breckon Farms. This was his sixth career win and advanced his earnings to $232,602.
Earlier in the evening the four year old son of Art Major, Don Hugo was a superlative winner of the Blacks A Fake Consolation.
His mile rate of 1.53.4 for the 2680 metres was only slightly inferior to that of Leap To Fame’s in his track record performance.
Don Hugo is in sparkling form at the moment and this victory was his tenth career win in 36 starts. He was sold for $82,500 at the 2021 APG Melbourne Yearling Sales, but that has been returned 3 times over with current earnings of $244,174.
Rock N Roll Heaven wasn’t left out of the night of celebrations for the Alabar boys either.
His four year old gelded son Blazing Home lived up perfectly to his name with a blazing victory in the $53,000 Qld 4 Year Old Championships (Gr 3).
He is the second foal of the unraced Bettors Delight mare Capture My Heart. He is building an impressive record for trainer Jarrod Alchin – 29 starts, 13 wins and $181,150 in prizemoney.
Tay Tay, the six year old daughter of Rock N Roll Heaven brought up her 21st career victory later in the evening. She now has surpassed $300,000 in earnings – $305,871.
There were many other winners for the Alabar Stallions over the weekend – they being:
- Sebastian James – a two year old colt by Captain Crunch led all the way in the $30,000 Western Crown at Gloucester Park, rating 1.55.8. He has now had three starts for two wins and $30,136 in prizemoney.
