Outstanding Always B Miki three year old Cold Chisel collected his first Group 1 trophy when taking out the Northern Derby at Alexandra Park on Friday night.
Coming off a second last week, Cold Chisel was used at both ends of the 2700 meter journey this week and prevailed.
It was the 6th win of his career (4th at stakes level) and takes his earnings to $344,763.
Cold Chisel comes from Always B Miki’s third crop and is his 6th Group 1 winner.
Bred by Mark and Pauline O’Connor and Owen Shaw, Cold Chisel is out of the Presidential Ball mare Shezaball.
He was a $100,000 yearling purchase by Dean Shannon’s Montana Park and is trained by Barry Purdon.
