A Breeders Crown winner for Breeders Crown winner

Gem Quality scored a track record win in the $700,000 Breeders Crown 2YO C&G Final to give Captain Crunch a Breeders Crown winner from his debut crop.

Coming into the race off a second placing in his elimination, Gem Quality was given a lovely drive by Dexter Dunn.

He settled in the front half of the field and exploded late to win by over a length, with a last quarter of 26.2.

He stopped the clock at 1:50 – a new track record for two year old pacing colts and geldings.

Trained by Chris Ryder, Gem Quality has now won 4 times from 8 starts for earnings of $442,710.

He is first foal of the Bettor’s Delight mare Twinkle, who in turn is a daughter of the Western Hanover mare Ashlees Star.

Captain Crunch won the 2018 Breeders Crown 2YO C&G Final and becomes the first ever pacer to win that race and sire the winner of a Breeders Crown 2YO C&G Final from his debut crop.

Captain Crunch is now the Leading First Crop Stallion in the US this year.
